Audio editing is the process where one modifies an audio file by editing it. With programs such as Audacity, Garage Band, or even video editors such as moviemaker and iMovie, one can shorten audio files, cut parts, mix, change its order, and even add effects. Audio Editing is used in multiple medias such as the radio, podcasts, TV, and cinema.

The advantages of digital audio versus Analog The advantages that digital audio has compared to analog audio is the fact that its so easy to transporting around, as you can insert many CDs in the same device, or you can just simply upload the audio to the internet and then download the file. It is also much easier to edit and share. Recording is also much simple because it only requires a microphone and a computer and a audio editing program. On the other hand, Analog Audio has the advantage of having a single format and it causes no problems of compatibility. The formats that are most used to reproduce the audio files are WAV, WMA, and the most popular and used MP3.

This formats can be played in iTunes and Windows Media Player. One can even listen to audio files in the internet some examples are Spotify and Grooveshark.

I use audio editing when I help out Galder and other friends with their videos and montages. We have not yet done great things with audio, we simply work on the background music and some twitches in the voices. Digital audio editing has allowed many people to get into this subject, before people had to have an expensive equipment to work, and this did not give the option to common people to edit audios. Now everyone can work on podcasts or editing music, as a job or as a hobby. Adding in the Internet "boom" witch has allowed people to turn their hobby in to their jobs, since audio files are so easy to be shared, and offers a new level of interacting with the world. The fact that this subject has grown and improved so much is thanks to the Internet and audio editors.

A podcast is a type of digital media consisting of a series of audio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or smart phone. The word is derived from "broadcast" and "pod" from the success of the iPod, as podcasts are often listened to on portable media players. A list of all the audio or video files currently associated with a given series is maintained centrally on the distributor's server as a web feed, and the listener or viewer employs special client application software, known as a podcatcher, that can access this web feed, check it for updates, and download any new files in the series. This process can be automated so that new files are downloaded automatically. Files are stored locally on the user's computer or other device ready for offline use, giving simple and convenient access to content.In this way it is contrasted to webcasting (Internet streaming). Podcasting is both a converged medium bringing together audio, the web and portable media player. This idea of disruptiveness is largely because no one person owns the technology; it is free to listen and create content, which departs from the traditional model of 'gate-kept' media and production tools. It is very much a horizontal media form: producers are consumers and consumers become producers and engage in conversations with each other.
